Directions

Getting to the Beach

57th Street Beach is one of our favorite spots in Chicago.

The beach is a 20-minute drive from Downtown Chicago. It’s on the east side of Lake Shore Drive, so the only access is through a pedestrian underpass.

Plan to walk about 1/4 of a mile from the drop-off or parking lot, and carry your beach items with you.

Check out the step-by-step directions below.

Rideshare Drop-Off: 5550 E 56th St, Chicago, IL 60637

If you’re taking an Uber or a Lyft, have them drop you off at 5550 E 56th St, Chicago, IL 60637

Across the street from the dropoff address, you’ll see a historical building called the Iowa building. To the east of this, you’ll find the path to the beach.

Head to the underpass.

Follow the path to the east, then turn right to head south and downhill on the sidewalk.

Turn left and into the tunnel.

There are two underpasses at this intersection, it’s the first one to the left that you’ll want to use.

Turn right and walk up the hill.

After the tunnel, you’ll turn right and up the hill towards the beach concession building.

You’ve arrived!

You’ll find us on the beach just past the concession stand! This building has food, drinks and restrooms, so we’ll stay close to keep things convenient.

If you’re driving…

If you plan to drive, there is a parking lot with hourly options located off Science Drive1800 Columbia Dr, Chicago, IL 60637.

There’s a different underpass for this access point- follow this map to our location on the beach, or navigate to “Truth on the Beach,” the concession vendor.
